19th October 2008 mark a very exciting day for me in my Taekwon-Do life as my Chief Instructor Mr L K CHIN has organized a seminar by MASTER TREVOR NICHOLLS, 8TH degree Master who is also the ITF Secretary General.
The excitement began when all my Taekwon-Do friends meet at the ballroom that morning and all were equally excited as I was. All 85 of us always been training together in our dojang eager to learn from the master in the seminar. We also look forward to meet participants from Kluang, China, East Malaysia and Taiwan, not forgetting also members from Singapore lead by Master Daniel Sng.
I could still see the spirit remain high, looking eager to learn in the seminar, for sixteen of my member friends whose grading was held on 18th October 2008 even though we have gone through almost three hours demonstrating our skills, techniques from fundamental movements to patterns, sparring and self defense and destruction.
The seminar began with Master Trevor Nicholls short speech briefing us regarding ITF and we were honored to have Master Nicholls reinforce the Taekwon-Do spirit and oath laid by the Founder of Taekwon-Do Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi. He also emphasized that Taekwon-Do is not a symbol of aggressiveness but a healthy exercise.
He then lead us on, demonstrating on the right technique for punching ,various kicking techniques, also showing us the accurate execution of pattern with the focus on power .He demonstrated also on how power is achieved by using all parts of the body in one flow, how to utilize sine wave at the right place.
The seminar continued after lunch break with Master Trevor Nicholls further demonstrating personally in detail the technique of breaking. There were also patterns performed by volunteers, evaluated and then performed correctly under Master guide. More details were explained by Master Trevor Nicholls touching on topic such as the application of mass, hip and continuous natural movements in performing patterns (TUL).
The enthusiasm and respect from all members were obvious and the excitement carries on to the photo and autograph sessions. The seminar then officially dismissed.
Dinner at 7pm at Lotus Garden Restauran, with members sharing experiences and jokes with Master Trevor Nicholls. The students from the grading section particularly enjoyed the dinner together with Master Trevor Nicholls and all TKD friends.
The dinner concluded around 9.30pm in such harmony atmosphere between all members in the ITF family.
I could not held, but felt excited days after the seminar, recalling the lessons learned from Master Trevor Nicholls. It was indeed great pleasure to meet Master Trevor Nicholls and so many others.
I shall look forward to progressing further. I am indeed thankful to my Chief Instructor MR L K CHIN , one who never give up, one who is always so devoted and dedicated to his beloved martial arts of Taekwon-Do.
