What an amazing time at the UK ITF annual training day. With over 90 students in attendance ranging from blue belts to Masters, the day was enjoyed by all.
We kicked of the day with Instructor training where all 24 Tuls were performed with correction, updates and guidance given throughout. It was fantastic to see many of our Instructors training and learning together as students of Taekwon-Do. The session was then followed by Masters training under the instruction of UK ITF President GM Nicholls. It was impressive seeing our Masters within UK ITF still eager to perform on the floor, discuss and learn from one another.
After a short break, the hall began to fill with students ready to attack the days training. With the room at capacity, we were ready to begin. The first workshop of the training covered leg strength and contraction of muscle when performing kicks. A tough but enjoyable start to the afternoon from GM Nicholls.
The second workshop of the day was led by UK ITF coaches Mr Recce Nicholls and Mr Jamie McAvoy. With sparring pads on, the workshop covered offensive drills and also looked at how to counter aggressive forward fighting opponents. This section of the day was enjoyed by all, with lots of new and interesting training drills for you to practise back in the club.
After a small break, the 3rd workshop was conducted by head of technical Mr Matthew Brunger and promotions chair Ms Laurie Cornwell. The session moved away from sparring work and covered the fundamentals of kicking. In particular, this session focused on using the base leg to help deliver power when kicking. An enjoyable session with lots of useful training tips to take away.
The last workshop was conducted by tournament chair Master Buxton and covered pad work drills. This was a fun end to the day where students could challenge themselves with difficult but effective kick combinations. I am sure we will be seeing these drill repeated up and down the country following this session.
4 workshops finished and it was time for GM Nicholls to call the training to a close.
We would like to thank all who attended the event as well as the instructors and Masters for leading and supporting throughout the day. Lastly we would like to thank UK ITF administration, in particular Ms Ashley Nicholls for arranging and coordinating the day, it was a great success. We hope you all enjoyed the event and look forward to welcoming you the next UK ITF event.
