On Sunday 2nd July, Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha, lead a seminar to celebrate 50 years since he first brought Taekwon-do to the UK. It was also 20 years since he was promoted to 9th degree, the first student of General Choi to receive this promotion, hence his title First Grand Master Rhee (FGMR).
This took place in Coventry, at Woodland Academy, the actual place that FGMR began teaching TKD in 1967. Students from 10th Kup to 9th degree were present which was a really nice tribute to FGMR!
UKITF members from Mr Dhillon’s school as well as UTA and Dragon TKD members were present to represent our group and we were pleased to share this time with many other associations and groups from all over the country.
FGMR spent a lot of time talking about correct terminology, application of inside and outside blocks and utilising the body mass to gain maximum power in techniques. He also said that no matter which Taekwon-do association of federation we are part of as individuals, we are all part of one International Taekwon-do Family (ITF)!
Thanks on behalf of UKITF to GM Ray O’Neill for hosting this event and inviting us along.
