Over the weekend, the UKITF once again held it 4th Degree and above training weekend. Open to all senior instructor, this was a great opportunity for members to come together and train with a shared passion and love for Taekwon-Do. With visitors from Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, USA and Germany this was an ideal time to meet old friends and forge new friendships.

After an opening speech from Master Nicholls the training was ready to get underway. Starting with Tong-IL, and working our way down the Tuls, it was a pleasure to watch our senior degrees stepping onto the floor and performing as students of Taekwon-Do, seeking advice, and guidance with open arms.

The day finished with an in-depth discussion about the fundamental application of Taekwon-Do’s base kicks. Sharing wisdom and good teaching practises, we feel all in attendance left enriched from the experience.

Aching, tired and in need of a good rest the session was called to a close.

Day two and we were ready to continue where we left off…Warming up with junior patterns and opening the floor to any technical questions, we were able to warm ourselves into the day, shaking off any aches and pains from the day before whilst furthering our education of the junior Tuls.

It was then time to move onto the remaining 4th and 5th Degree patterns which were not cover on the Saturday session. Walking step by step through each movement, Master Nicholls placed great emphasis on the application speed of punches, strikes and thrusts and the differences in delivery.

To finish the patterns section of the day students were offered the chance to perform to the group. With Masters, International Instructors, World Champions and our Umpire committee members in attendance, this was a great opportunity to watch fellow students demonstrate to the group whilst receiving an insight into the competition scoring procedures.

To end the weekends training, Master Nicholls conducted a short workshop on one step sparring protocol before moving onto pad work and sparring drills. With representatives from 5 National teams in the room, it gave all attending an insight into different training methods which I am sure we will be taken back and used in our clubs.

On behalf of everyone at the weekend, we would like to thank Master Nicholls and supporting Masters for their guidance and continual commitment to strengthening the UKITF. We would also like to thank the instructors that made it down for the weekend whom without events such as these would not be possible.

We look forward to seeing you all again at the next training weekend in September!
