Region 1 STOMP 2015
After weeks of hard training it was finally time for our youngest students to step up and compete in the much anticipated STOMP Championships. With divisions ranging from 4-17yrs and white to black belt, we were all excited to watch the day’s events unfold. After a swift set up the event was ready to commence…
Up first were our Generation-X divisions. Originally designed to lay the foundation for training in Taekwon-Do, the children showed far more than this, competing beyond their years with the confidence, self-control and professionalism of our most elite competitors.
Once the students had performed in their patterns division it was time to pad up and prepare for sparring. Boasting over 180 competitors there was no easy route to the top spot with all students fighting hard, determined to take the sought after STOMP gold medal.
The morning finished with our junior black belts taking to the mat. With Our Generation-X watching on, this was a great opportunity for the youngsters to see our champions of tomorrow battle it out for the gold. Whether win, lose or draw each decision say taken graciously, once again showing how great a role model our juniors are becoming to our Generation-X students.
With the morning called to a close, we had a small break to recover from the excitement of the day and prepare for the cadets (8-12yrs) scheduled for the afternoon. Busy and bursting with talent, it was encouraging watching the children stay focused yet enjoying themselves and sparking new friendships in the process. This enjoyment however quickly turned to determination as it was announced patterns would soon be commencing.
As always the patterns were performed to a high standard and were a true pleasure to watch. As we progressed from white belts through the grades it was encouraging to see their competition experience shining through, shedding light on the importance and positive impact these local events have on the development of our junior competitors.
Once patterns had finished, students were instructed to pad up, warm up and set themselves for sparring. With eager spectators and team members encouraging from the side lines everyone was excited to watch as the competitors stepped onto the ring. As with previous STOMP Championships strong performances were put in by all, with each student showing the heart and determination of a true Taekwon-Do practitioner.
We would like to thank all clubs within the Region for showing their full support at the event as well as our Taekwon-Do friends who attended from outside the Borough. It is with your continual support that events such as this can continue to grow and flourish. We would also like to thank all the parents and supports who attended the day along with the students whom without the event would not have been possible. We look forward to seeing you all at the next event…
