On the 14th of March students and instructors from UKITF headed out to Holland to support and assist at the Royal Dutch Workshop day. Under the direction of Grand Master Nicholls and supporting Masters from Spain, Germany and Holland we were all excited to be part of a true master class in Taekwon-Do.

After short introductions made by GM Nicholls and country delegates, all 5th degree and above were called to the floor. This was not only a great opportunity for our senior members to receive tuition and guidance but a chance for the junior grades to watch their seniors perform. Present at the seminar were current ITF Tul World Champions Mr Kevin McCabe VI Degree and Mr Matthew Brunger V Degree who were instructed to demonstrate to the group. This was ideal place to both highlight the hard work and successes of our champions and offer some inspiration to all those in attendance.

After performing on the floor, the seniors were encouraged to stretch out and relax while the class took part in what can be described as a fun, yet very exhausting warm up routine. Limbered up and ready to go, the class was separated into two workshop groups. Those that had pads were to take part in a sparring seminar lead by GM Nicholls with the support of current sparring World Champion Mr Brunger, whilst those without pads were privileged to a patterns seminar with Master Braemer, supporting Masters and current World Champion Mr McCabe.

2 hours later and it was time for a much needed break. Exhausted yet happy, we all retired to the food court to eat, drink and talk amongst friends. The final workshop of the day was lead up by Master Perez who aimed to broaden our knowledge and understanding of the umpiring process. Stressing the importance of the umpire in the success of championships, Master Perez’s knowledge and dedication shone through as we were walked step by step through the role and actions of the referee.

An excellent day had by all, Master Nicholls called the day to close, but not before imparting some very welcomed wisdom to the group. After a quick group photo and presentations the day was officially closed. We would like to thank the Royal Dutch and Master Nicholls for co-ordinating such a well-run event and of course to all the instructors and students that took the time to support the event on little notice.
