On the 10th May members from Trenic TKD under the UKITF banner were invited to take part in Match Day 4, an event dedicated to match day practise. Here student had the opportunity to compete against one another without the added pressures of competition, allowing competitors to trial new games plans, tactics and techniques in a friendly atmosphere.

Travelling down from Trenic TKD were Katie Hetherington, Coby Esegbona and Coaches Matthew Brunger and Luke Dempsey. Fighting under WTF rules, this was a whole new experience for the two young competitors who had to adapt their styles and mentality whilst tying their hands behind their backs!!

Kitted up in body armour and proactive socks and gloves the students were eager to step onto the mat. Both Katie and Coby were scheduled to have three fights each. Up fist was Katie who after a cautious start settled into her performance however narrowly losing the decision.

Up next and hoping to turn the scales was Coby who instantly looked to set the pace throwing strong rear leg turning kicks and reverse hook kicks. However I feel it was perhaps his understanding of the rules and inexperience which let him down this time having to accept an early loss.

Up next was Katie who was determined to improve upon her last performance and she did so in spectacular fashion. After scoring solid head kicks in the first round and gaining good momentum leading into the second round, Katie remained relaxed yet focused and resulted in her competitor throwing in the towel.

After a quick lunch break Coby was called to the ring for his second match up. Against a much older, taller and more experienced fighter Coby really had to knuckle down and dig deep. Although giving as good as he got the opponent was the better fighter on the day leading Coby to concede once again. This left Coby fired up and raring to enter the ring for the last time. Against a well matched opponent Coby fired fast reverse turning kicks with pin point accuracy, following with powerful turning kicks to the body and head. After a long day Coby was able to secure his first victory giving him a much needed confidence boost.

Looking the end the day early and in her last fight, Katie pounced onto the ring and after executing well timed axe kicks and machine gun side-kicks the fight was called to a stop just 20 seconds into the first round.

We would to congratulate both Coby and Katie that took part in the match day. You were both a true credit to the UKITF and your individual clubs. We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Mr Tranter and the organising team for inviting us and running both a welcoming and professional event.
