Aidan Barbour (14) won a 2012 National Child of Courage Award which was presented to him at a charity ball in Bournemouth on
Saturday 13th October by Kerry Katona (see photo attached). Aidan has autism and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2009. He has a severe phobia of needles and medical procedures and has worked extensively with psychologists at Rainbow House, Ayrshire Central hospital to combat his fears. Aidan now manages his diabetes independently using an insulin pump, changing a cannula attached to his stomach every 2-3 days.
Aidan has been a member of Ayrshire Tae kwon-do schools since the age of 6. He attained his black belt in 2010 after his diagnosis of diabetes and continues to enjoy training despite his difficulties. Aidan is the perfect example of indomitable spirit at work and everyone at The Ayrshire schools who know Aidan are extremely proud of him and we would like to congratulate him on his award.
