South West Taekwon-do Championships April 2012

It was brilliant for the Teignbridge Taekwon-do Schools to attend this local Competition. 27 students, several parents, School Instructors and Chief Instructor Mr Peter Hilditch IV degree Black Belt travelled to Paignton for the Competition which started at 9 o''clock.

There was a fabulous friendly atmosphere as the students waited, for their catagories to be called.

First to compete were the Generation X (4-7 year olds) 2 students from Dawlish and Teignmouth classes competed in High Kick, Long Kick and Patterns. Finlay Houghton from Teignmouth, did exceptionally well for his first Competiton and was awarded a good competitor medal, Tayler Davey, from Dawlish class, gained a fanastic Silver medal for her Patterns.

Cadets (7-13 year olds) and Juniors (13 - 16 year olds), were competing at the same time on three seperate rings. For High Kick, Long Kick, Patterns and also Sparring, The students won an array of medals between them:- Cadets Sparring - Henry Matthews won Silver, Aidan Norbury won Bronze, Cadets Patterns - Callum Davey won Gold, Abbie Thomas won Silver, Shannon Pook won Bronze. Junior Sparring - Owen Thomas won Gold, Junior Patterns - Mitchell Searle won Gold, Stephanie Collings won Silver.

In the Adult (16 - 35) section, there were four disciplines to compete for - Patterns, Sparring, High Kick and Destruction. Jake Broom won a Bronze medal for patterns. All students put up a fantastic show of skills, unfortunatley not all were placed.

Last but not least, in the Senior section, there were three disciplines to compete for - Patterns, Sparring and Destruction.... the ladies won the lot, Cheryl Matthews won Gold and Jane Ivans won Bronze for Patterns and Sarah Aggett won Gold for Sparring and Gold for Destruction,

The following students all competed and were excellent competitors although not placed - Black Belts, Mr James Mayne, Mr Sam Mason. Seniors - Carol Searle, Gil Lemar-Collings. Adults - Rachael Rowlands. Juniors - Jaimie Ivans, Toby Broom. Cadets - Tom Coxon, Euan Talbot, Jordan Money, Ethan Ivans, George Thomas and Joseph Thomas.

Teignbridge Taekwon-do Schools won a total of 6 Golds, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze. An enjoyable day was had by all, with all the students looking forward to the English Taekwon-do Championships in Cornwall and British International Competition in Reading.
