On Sunday 6th June, Imperial Southwest hosted its annual competition to any and all that were keen to participate and perhaps win a medal or two. The tournament was moved to the larger venue of Carn Brea Leisure Centre in Redruth allowing for more competitors and spectators to admire the variety of talent that attended the day.
The day began with Black belt patterns. This didn''t disappoint the spectators watching from the stands. The high degree of technique in the senior patterns was excellence, as was the quality of the sparring that followed. It is fair to say that everyone, regardless of grade, age or ability gave one hundred percent effort and achieve a respectable performance.
It was a great opportunity for International competitors to have one last ''warm up'' before jetting off to Korea for this years World Championships. Good luck to those making the journey! The lower grades really appreciated the chance to observe the elite in action. A huge inspiration and benchmark for other students who want to progress further.
A massive thank you to Master Nicholls for attending the event, along with our gratitude to the students and officials that made the trip down to Cornwall and therefore made the day so successful.
