South East Region STOMP  

The South East Region held their second STOMP – a local competition for 5-12 year old students – on Saturday 13^th February 2010.The event was organised to raise funds towards the costs involved for South East students selected to represent England ITF in July 2010 at the ITF World Championships in South Korea.The anticipated cost is £1300.00 per person and we have 9 students taking part in the Selection event on 28^th February 2010.  

Our grateful thanks to Mellow Lane High School for again offering the venue free of charge.The main gym presented two ring for the competition.The second hall provided a warm-up area and snack bar.The competition was underway by 9.20am and finished by 2.30pm.115 students took part from Brentford, Greenford, Hayes, Heston, Yeading, Wembley and Yiewsley clubs.A rousing crowd of supporters filled all available space and helped create an exciting atmosphere.Club Instructors and assistants helped inexperienced students become familiar with the competition routine and rules.  

Ring 1 saw action with the Cadets (8 – 12yrs), beginners to Black Stripe, boys and girls, Patterns and Sparring.Some very promising performances were rewarded with medals – how many of these will themselves in the future represent England?The 5 – 7yrs Generation X students were on Ring 2 and thrilled on-lookers with some exciting combinations of techniques and sparring.  

The Raffle was very successful thanks to Club Instructors donating prizes and SE Region the Nintendo Wii.All competitors received a ‘STOMP’ water bottle to thank them for their participation.Overall, the day raised enough money to send one of our competitors to the World Championships.Well done, everyone.  

Thank you to students and supporters for attending and supporting the raffle, and to Club Instructors and assistants who helped run things smoothly on the day.Particular thanks are extended to Ashley Nicholls, Laurie Cornwell, Terry Humphries and Lee Hollingsworth for their time and effort in arrangements before and after the day, setting up and packing away.Our grateful thanks to Master Nicholls for his endless support and patience in our distracting his staff and office.
